DESCRIPTION OF PROCUREMENT
The University of Toronto is seeking to acquire a stationary, articulated 6-axis industrial-scale robotic arm with sphere coordinates and a floor-mounted position to advance research in digital fabrication and timber engineering. The requested robotic system will serve as a high-precision, multi-functional digital fabrication tool capable of handling mass timber planar and linear components, including geometries with interlocking joinery systems. The robotic arm should possess the following key attributes: (a) A Multi-Axis Motion Capability with a minimum of 6 degrees of freedom with a control unit cabinet and multi-touch interface controller, (b) A high-power spindle and a tool setter, (c) An integrated tool changing system for transitions between milling, drilling, and cutting tasks, (d) A guarding cell with interlock and emergency systems, and (e) A work holding table. The equipment should also come with (f) a full system design, customization, and software development to be compatible with code (primarily python) developed outside the robot ecosystem and laboratory-aware design, and (g) an installation, commissioning, and training package to facilitate the ease of use of the infrastructure with a minimal need for excessive supervision or training within a fully programmatic context.
The procurement is anticipated to involve negotiation. An electronic auction is not anticipated.
