The ministry invites tenders from firms specializing in Geotechnical assessments and forest road con-struction implementation and monitoring for EN26TFM002 Geotechnical and Construction Support Ser-vices contract. The objective of the project is to support the BC Timber Sales, Kootenay Business Area engineering program.
BC Timber Sales Kootenay Business Area encompasses the southeastern corner of British Columbia and contains the Arrow, Kootenay Lake, East Kootenay and Boundary Field Teams. This Business Area con-tains a number of forest development challenges including steep, complex and unstable terrain, signifi-cant snowfalls and avalanche terrain, numerous domestic and community watersheds, regions of fre-quent high intensity rainfall events, complex public planning processes, limited operating season, and forest health issues.
BCTS has the requirement for cost effective integration of professional geotechnical services with tech-nical supervisory elements of the Kootenay Business Area engineering program. Typically, this will in-volve the development and implementation of detailed geotechnical prescriptions, review and approval of geometric road de-sign, and the onsite supervision of road construction, maintenance, and rehabilita-tion works consistent with professional prescriptions. A high standard of both professional and technical expertise is required to success-fully implement all phases of the engineering program.
To a lesser extent, this contract will also provide an evaluation of land slide and mass wasting events as well as evaluations and recommendations related to harvest development and postharvest terrain sta-bility issues.
